In a quiet village in eastern Uganda, a group of women gather every Thursday under a makeshift shelter. Their laughter fills the air as they share ideas, count savings, and plan their next steps. This is one of HIWI Uganda’s women empowerment groups—and a powerful story of transformation.

Meet Aisha, a mother of three who once felt trapped by financial hardship. She dreamed of starting a tailoring business but had no support, no training, and no capital. Through HIWI Uganda’s Women Empowerment Program, she received skills training, mentorship, and joined a village savings group that opened the door to opportunity.

With her first small loan, Aisha bought fabric and began sewing dresses. Today, her business supports her family, pays school fees, and inspires other women in her community. She is no longer just surviving—she is leading.

Women like Aisha represent the resilience and determination found across Uganda. When women gain skills and financial independence, the ripple effect transforms entire communities. Children stay in school, families improve their health, and local economies grow stronger.

At HIWI Uganda, we believe empowered women are unbeatable forces for change.
And when women rise, communities rise with them.
