Health is Wealth Initiative (HIWI Uganda), in partnership with St. Joseph’s Hospital Wakiso, recently conducted a comprehensive HIV/AIDS and Tuberculosis (TB) sensitization outreach in Wakiso town. This outreach aimed to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage early testing and treatment for both diseases, which remain major public health challenges in Uganda.

The event brought together community members, local leaders, health workers, and volunteers for an informative day filled with health education sessions, counseling, and free testing services. Through interactive talks and demonstrations, participants learned about modes of transmission, prevention methods, signs and symptoms, and the importance of adherence to treatment. The outreach also emphasized the critical link between HIV and TB co-infection, highlighting the need for integrated care.

HIWI’s role focused on mobilizing and educating the community, while St. Joseph’s Hospital Wakiso provided skilled medical personnel who conducted on-the-spot HIV and TB screenings. This collaboration ensured that participants received immediate, confidential testing and were linked to care and support services where needed.

The outreach reached hundreds of residents, significantly contributing to increased community knowledge, early diagnosis, and stronger health-seeking behaviors. HIWI and St. Joseph’s Hospital remain committed to continuing such joint efforts to combat HIV/AIDS and TB in Wakiso and beyond.
